Go Math Think Central by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt – K6 ThinkCentral

To start off, ThinkCentral is the Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) Web site that allows teachers and students to access digital materials associated with one or more HMH programs.

On top of that, it allows administrators to set up and modify accounts, and run reports of student, class and even school programs. Sounds neat, it is.

About ThinkCentral

ThinkCentral is an educational website that can be used by three categories of people namely students, teachers and administrators. It is a great website. There are a lot of resources on this platform. The domain was registered in 2002 and its officially registered website is Think Central.

It is a very useful website for students especially for learning math and doing activities.

How to access ThinkCentral

Please note that is important to understand which platforms you can use due to browser compatibility. This is to better your ThinkCentral experience. The experience may vary but the recommended browsers are Chrome Latest and Firefox Latest. They have exhibited the highest operating system compatibility. However, operating systems and browsers are frequently updated and HMH attempts to maintain alignment with these updates as soon as possible to support the best learning experience.

Logging In To ThinkCentral

A single user name and password provides you access that your school has purchased, including teacher guides, student eBooks, assessments and reports. If you are logging in for the first time, your teacher must provide you with a user name and password. This is easy:

  • Go to www.thinkcentral.com
  • Select a subject
  • Pick your HMH program. Clicking the program name will take you to ThinkCentral
  • As soon as your order has completed processing, you will receive an email containing your login credentials and joining instructions.

If you already have an account, you just need to click on the same website and open the ThinkCentral login page. You will be able to access ThinkCentral with your Google account information. Type your country, state, district, school, User Name and Password and click Log In. If you are already logged into Google you will be automatically directed to ThinkCentral.

Please note that you may want to bookmark the login page for future purposes.

Accessing The Administrator’s Welcome Page

The Administrator’s Welcome Page is quite the sight with a classic edge to its theme which gives its features a facelift. The clickable icons, set in a grey background, allow the administrator some very handy options, as follows:

  • Users allows you to create and modify accounts
  • Accounts allows you to update product and personal information
  • Districts and Schools allows you to change some settings and create classes, and lastly
  • Reports displays lists of reports on schools, students or classes.

Navigating Think Central

The top tab in the Welcome Page indicates the major areas so it is easy to move around. To return to the Welcome Page upon further navigation you just need to click the Think Central logo. To obtain instructions about the current page, click Help.

The left navigation panel gives you the ability to perform tasks related to key areas of ThinkCentral such as managing and configuring.

It is important to log out your ID after finishing your session and this is easily doable by clicking Logout.

When you log in to your account, your dashboard will open and reveal three options:

Things to do. In this option, you can access all your assignments, due dates and status that the teacher may have given to you. You can also see your work on the assignments that the teacher has given.

My library. This option will show you available materials. The tools include:

  • Go Math
  • Interactive Student Edition
  • Maths Concept Readers
  • Math on the spot videos
  • Strategic Intervention
  • Critical Area Projects, among others.

Test scores. This feature displays all your scores in both marks obtained and in percentage. It is a really great option because you can see both your correct and incorrect answers and work on the latter. This helps the student to note his/her academic growth. By using this feature, parents can also check their child’s progress report and evaluate their child’s performance and how they are coping with assignments.

Advantages of this layout

  • Easy to operate
  • Good general graphical user interface

Feature Overview:

Go Math

This feature made ThinkCentral one of the coolest math game websites for kids and students. It is an animated interactive edition. They are many options to choose from depending on the grade. Once opened, the image provides a myriad of skills which students can attempt to conquer and learn easily. A child can practice these things and it is a great activity they can do at home.

ePlanner

The ePlanner is great for opening and printing worksheets etc. at a point of use.

For example, you can click on “Print Resources” and the items available for view, scheduled and in some cases, assigned, will be duly displayed awaiting confirmation to print.

Browse

From the dashboard, after selecting your grade, this option allows you to ‘drill down’ from Program Structure to a specific unit, chapter and lesson.

Speaker

Anywhere you see the speaker icon, the text can be read. Very handy and thoughtful feature, if you ask me. You can also turn on or off the highlighting of the text as it is read.

Note that you can start the oral reading back at the beginning.

Roles of The Administrator

  • Administrators are in charge of creating teacher accounts. This can be done either directly or by delegating the responsibility to someone else. The administrator should be sure to note the user name and password because they will have to notify the user.
  • Administrators may also create accounts for other administrators. Examples include principals, and by request, students.
  • Creating individual student accounts. Care must be taken to fill in and save all the data correctly.
  • In some instances, teachers may go through the self-registration process themselves. In this case, the administrator must still approve them.
  • The administrator may change some settings by clicking District and School. This may include changing of the time zone and user settings. Please note that decisions made by district administrators are for the entire district and cannot be overturned by school administrators.
  • Creating and modifying classes. This includes assigning and moving students.
